Course of study : 160 hours

National Progression Award in Dance (SCQF Level 4)
This qualification offers students the opportunity to develop choreographic skills and two different styles of dance : Classical (ballet), Jazz Dance.

Create your own choreography and understand the structure of creating choreography. You will look deeper into music and research movement development.

There are no specific entry requirements, however it is expected that you have an interest and some experience in Dance or Performing Arts.

Curriculum

This qualification is mainly practical based, alongside elements of theory based work. It offers students the opportunity to develop choreographic skills and two different styles of dance : Classical (ballet) and Jazz Dance.

Aspirations

Progression from the N.P.A level 4 can be into Dance Units at Higher level or Higher dance (All at SCQF level 6)

To experience live performances and broaden your experience of dance

To develop a range of appropriate practical skills, knowledge and understanding relevant to dance

To develop communication and interpersonal skills

To gain an appropriate learning experience in Dance at a non-advanced level

Assessment

There are no specific entry requirements, however it is expected that you have an interest and some experience in Dance or Performing Arts.  

Most of the assessment is practical – students demonstrate basic dance technique, sequences and short studies. They also perform short dances which will be filmed. Students are additionally assessed on their understanding of the dance forms that they are learning. Progression from the N.P.A level 4 can be into Dance Units at Higher level or Higher dance (all at SCQF level 6)
