This qualification offers the student the opportunity to develop skills in the areas of Acting, Music and Dance – all in the context of Musical Theatre. The N.P.A also provides the specific skills, knowledge and resources that may be called upon when preparing for auditions for enter to Musical Theatre, Drama or Music courses and/or the Theatre or Performing Arts industry.

There are no specific entry requirements but you should have performing skills broadly equivalent of SCQF level 4 to access this award. It would be beneficial if you had some previous experience of either Drama, Dance or Musical Theatre.


Understanding various Musical Theatre styles from Classical to Juke-Box and contemporary productions on stage and film.

Create a portfolio of contrasting songs, suitable for both audition and current market.

Musical theatre students are advised to play an instrument.


This N.P.A will give the student a platform which could allow progression into further education and Diploma courses.

To develop a range of skills associated with the triple discipline of Musical Theatre practice

To apply combined practical skills in audition format

To develop self-education skills, enabling professional development

To develop a range of appropriate skills in Voice, Movement and Acting


This is a 120 hour programme of study, which equates to a minimum of 3 credits. There is only one mandatory unit and two other units should be selected from the optional section. 

Mandatory : Acting through song  

Optional : Solo singing skills, Group singing skills, Group dance performance, Preparation for Audition
