As part of our HNC | HND courses in Performing Arts, we strive for our students at Jazzart to perform at a professional standard and have the confidence to present their craft in person and online.
We are living in a digital age where an online presence is an integral part of every professional’s daily routine and should include vocal warm-up, fitness regime and well-being all of which can be accessed online.
Our focus at Jazzart is always on performance and the use of technique to enhance individuality, creativity, artistry and crafted excellence for all genres of Musical Theatre and Professional Dance.
Throughout the academic year Jazzart HNC & HND students experience what they’re future might look like by performing in Pantomime, Musicals, M.T. Rep, Devised multi – disciplined productions plus cabaret. The students have multiple opportunities to play to both live audiences and create showreels and online content to kick start their careers while studying.
Students work an average 25+ practical hours per week to ensure they have the stamina for a demanding professional contract
VOCAL TECHNIQUES – The essence of Musical Theatre.
Jazzart aim to ensure students can produce a consistent sound throughout their vocal range in both speech and song. Students build a repertoire of as many styles and genres as possible from M.T. Rep to Jazz and blues, classical and contemporary pop focusing on material suitable for the many styles of auditions and castings to be encountered in our careers. Jazzart incorporates the Estill voice training method on all courses.
ACTING through SONG – The heart of Musical Theatre.
The creative ability to transform lyrics from a page to a story that transports your audience to a level of emotion that transcends the entire script is the art of our craft. Reading and understanding every word in a song, it’s relevance to the story is the true meaning of Musical Theatre. It takes focus and guidance from both peers and mentors to create artists. Acting Through Song separates singers from true artists . At Jazzart our aim is to develop artists of international standard.
ACTING & PRODUCTION – The soul of Musical Theatre
At Jazzart we encourage our students to deliver a convincing performance through’ developing imagination, concentration and observation. Confidence is built using varying acting techniques to develop the discipline and team work. Improvisation and exploring real life experiences are created to inspire and bring out an understanding of character development. Acting for camera is the fastest developing technique in the musical theatre. 1-2-1- mentoring is provided to focus on building a rep of monologues for audition suitable for theatre, T.V. and film.
DANCE FOR MUSICAL THEATRE
Jazzart Musical Theatre students are trained in

Through development of flexibility, technique, creativity and a build-up of stamina Jazzart students are prepared for the speed and pace of live auditions. Many Musical Theatre auditions involve a strong dance element, Jazzart students are prepared for all styles of dance for commercial productions and are audition ready.

In today’s performance industry, it’s no longer enough to be just be a dancer. Performers are now required to have advanced technical and performance skills in all dance styles plus the ability to understudy leading roles.
Jazzart creative director Sheridan Nicol is recognized as a Jazz Dance Master teacher (Jazz tec). Over the years she has and mentored many of the UK’s top performers and choreographers. Sheridan has been instrumental in creating Jazz Dance syllabi presented throughout Britain and Europe.
Jazzart’s unique training aims to develop flexibility, strength and stamina to enable our students to perform with energy, control and character. Graduates will have the confidence to both audition and work in any style of production both live and digital.
Jazzart incorporates all current styles of dance and choreography as part of their weekly timetable. Jazzart invites trending choreographers throughout the year to work with students, ensuring their rep is current. Jazzart Grads who have performed professionally throughout the world are regularly seen teaching in the college.
Commercial/ Lyrical/ Heels
Commercial dance is widely seen on television and pop promos and changes in style regularly to highlight current trends.
Hip -Hop
The Hip -Hop culture covers many styles: rising from the streets of the South Bronx in the 70’s and the main focus of film and music videos.
Tap
Following in the footsteps of our founder BETTE CLARK (undefeated World Tap Dance Champion) Jazzart continues to promote the art of American Rhythm Tap
Ballet
The foundation of all dance, classical ballet develops an understanding of stance, placement, centering and weight transference.
(Students at Jazzart are encouraged to enter for Royal Academy of Dance (R.A.D) examinations to advanced one level in addition to their SQA certification).
Contemporary / Creative
Horton and Graham based techniques are the foundation of Jazzart’s creative curriculum. delivery of
Acro/Tricks/Tumble
Whether coming from a street or gymnastic background the ability to tumble and trick is now a requirement from a walkover, ariel or back flip to ribbon work should be incorporated in any freestyling audition.
Jazzart can also deliver associate teaching qualifications in Ballet, Tap and Jazz
